The Department of homeland security defines human trafficking as a “modern-day form of slavery involving the illegal trade of people for exploitation or commercial gain”. 

People are manipulated and lured by false promises such as good jobs, educational opportunities, stability and even romantic relationships. 

Modern day slavery comes in many forms, namely sexual exploitation, domestic violence, labour exploitation, forced marriage, organ harvesting, forced criminality, drug trade and child soldiers.
